A B O U T   M E...

Being the Music Director and Resident Conductor of Grandmaster Philharmonic Orchestra and Kwai Tsing Philharmonic Orchestra since 2009, the Hong Kong conductor & composer Leung Chi Pong is described as “liberate expression and passion from music” by Kharkov Times (Ukraine). He was also appointed as the principal conductor of the Grandmaster Philharmonic Orchestra in between the seasons of 2010 - 2013. His teacher includes Dr. Jerome 

Hoberman and Mr. Jason Lai. Chi Pong also appeared in masterclass of Prof. Kenneth Kiesler, Mr. James Judd and Prof. Jerry F. Junkin. Leung had collaborated with many renowned artists, including violinist Prof. Suli Xue, pianist Dr. Karl Lo, mezzo soprano Sophie Gopsill and flutist Brian Gopsill. He has also appeared with orchestras such as The Academic Symphony Orchestra (Kharkov/Ukraine), Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra (Lithuania), Berlin Sinfonietta (Germany), Academy Symphony Orchestra (Hong Kong) and Musicogenic Symphony Orchestra (Hong Kong). 

 

Chi Pong studied in Hong Kong Baptist University for his Bachelor degree in Art (Music) and master in music in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. His teacher includes Mr. Clarence Mak, Dr. Lo Hau Man, Dr. Christopher Keyes and Dr. Christopher Coleman. Leung is an enthusiastic composer. His works were performed by Bang on a Can All-Stars (USA), Psapphas (UK), Hong Kong Kamerata, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Hong Kong Academy Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong
Academy Chinese Orchestra, Musicogenic Symphony Orchestra, Kwai Tsing Philharmonic Orchestra and Miss Emily Li (Handbells).

In 2012, he received the Society of APA Scholarship and Academy EXCEL Scholarship respectively. Chi Pong’s works were selected successively in New Generation Composition Competition in 2010 - 2012 and being performed by several ensembles on Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). He is also the winner of HKAPA Concerto Trial in 2011 - 2013 successively. In 2013, he achieved a 3rd prize in the 10th Italy Percussion Composition Competition. His work was also being selected in 32nd ACL Festival & Conference 2014.

Besides conducting and composing, Leung studies piano with Mr. Hung Chong. In 2010 and 2011, he won the 1st prize of the 16th Hong Kong Asian Piano Open Competition and the 1st Macau Asian Piano Open Competition under the coaching of Dr. Karl Lo. He has also played in piano master classes given by Dr. Arbo Valdma and Mr. Choi Sown Le.

Chi Pong currently working as music theory examiner for ABRSM and artistic director of International Fringe Association. He is the judge of Hong Kong - Asia- Youth Music Competition, International Fringe Music Festival and Competition. In 2019, He was invited to be a consultant and conduct Hong Kong International Youth Philharmonia. Recently, he is the visiting artist of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
